Thackeray favourite for Cumwhinton Handicap
Thackeray has got a solid chance of winning the Cumwhinton Handicap (Betfair 10 Furlong Flat Series Qualifier) at Carlisle in England on Monday, June 18, 2012. A cash prize of £3,235 will be awarded to the winner of the class-5 event.
The going will be soft in the 1 mile, 1 furlong and 61 yard event, which is scheduled to start at 16:45 GMT. A total of 11 entries have been confirmed for action and their names are as follows: Osgood, Goodness, Thackeray, Call Of Duty, Smart Step, Botham,
Painted Tail, Watts Up Son, Edas, High Resolution and Aggravation.
Looking at the track conditions, the best chances of victory appear to be with Thackeray. His recent form has also been good, which will encourage the punters to place the maximum number of bets on him.
The five-year-old gelding has participated in 10 events, winning a couple of them whereas finished runner up on the same number of times. In addition to that, he has also secured the third place once, which proves that he is fully capable of fighting at
the front.
The Chris Fairhurst’s trainee was performing pretty decently some time ago, as he managed to win a couple of back to back events. However, he lost some rhythm in his most recent outing, finishing ninth in it.
Despite that, Thackeray is expected to bounce back strongly today, as he has the tools to outperform his opponents. He has got an impressive stamina, which will be the decisive factor today.
Thackeray will be partnered by seasoned jockey, Kelly Harrison, who has earned a few victories, but lacks consistency. Her strike rate is poor, which will discourage the punters from placing bets on her.
The bookies have shown more faith in the abilities of Osgood, who has got a lot of experience and is carrying the winning momentum right now. He has entered 42 events, winning four of them, which shows that he is not a consistent runner.
However, the five-year-old gelding has finished runner up on six times whereas secured the third spot thrice. He finished on top of the table in his most recent outing, thus has a solid chance of winning today as well.
