Thad Bosley’s teachings are positively affecting the Texas Rangers in the hitting department
The Texas Rangers were ranked second in runs when they went up against the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park. With 58 scored runs, they are looking strong in piling on damage when they face any team in the American League. They were positioned at fifth in
on base percentage (.346) and batting average (.270), heading into their series opener in Detroit.
The club, however, was leading the slugging percentage with a .546 ratio, as well as extra base hits with 40 total bases. The Rangers are also currently tied on top for most home runs (18) in the American League. Fortunately, that has come from the efforts
of batting coach, Thad Bosley. Back when he joined the Rangers’ organization, he had ideas for the players and a simple goal.
The objective was simple and it coined the strategy of being more aggressive in the strike zone. Fortunately, that is something the organization is aspiring to, at the moment.
"We all know we have the best offense in baseball," Bosley said. "The term I use is 'Enhance that.' When you're going against a No. 1 or No. 2 starter, you're not going to get a lot of good pitches to hit, so you have to be efficient.
"We have been efficient in that when we get a pitch to drive, we've done that. We're also getting better and getting deeper into counts. We're getting ourselves into position to get more extra-base hits, and that puts us into position to score more runs."
Bosley further elaborated that if the team is able to replicate what it did last year, everything would be good on the forefront. He specifically mentioned three things the club needs to be concentrating on - stealing bases, running extra bases on errors
and going from first to third base are all the important areas that Bosley believes the club can gain from, this year.
The Texans placed Bosley in the Batting Coach’s chair after Clint Hurdle moved to the National League to manage the Pittsburgh Pirates. Surprisingly, the new coach’s strategy can lead to a high strikeout rate amongst hitters; however, the hitters currently
have the fewest strike outs in the league.
