Thai Jamnian Chitprasong leads by three shots in Brunei Senior Masters - European Senior Tour
The second round of the Brunei Senior Masters of the European Senior Tour concluded today at the par-71, Empire Hotel and Country Club, Brunei. It was the seasoned campaigner Jamnian Chitprasong who improved his position and moved to the top of the leader
board. The Thai had a superb second round of six-under par, 65 to lead the tournament after two days.
Three players are tied for the second spot and have a deficit of three strokes over the leader. Overnight leaders, Peter Fowler and Bill Longmuir had to slip on the leader board and were placed at tied sixth and ninth respectively.
Chitprasong, who does not have much experience playing on the senior tour, will mark his first win if he tops the leader board on the final day of the tournament. He had a bogey-free round of six-under par, 65 which was comfortable for him to overcome the
leaders. The Thai started the day brilliantly with four consecutive birdies which charged him up. His card, which shows six birdies, depicts his class and momentum which was with him on the second day. The veteran was overwhelmed with his sparkling performance
and was confident of lifting his maiden victory on the final day, as his total two day aggregate score is ten-under par, 132.
Three players were tied for the second spot with a similar two round score of seven-under par, 135. Barry Lane of England, Australian Mike Harwood and Sang-ho Choi of Korea share the second spot. All three players trail by a margin of three shots over the
leader and one of them will look to win the championship trophy.
The former European Tour player Lane, who has been successful in his career, will be looking forward to win his second senior title. The Englishman won a tournament last year in August and this will be his second victory if the leader falters on the final
day. Lane was impressive on the front-nine and had a score of five-under par, 30. Back-nine holes really troubled him as he had three bogeys and three bogeys. Overall, he was very much satisfied with his two day under par rounds and is in a position to mark
his second senior victory, as he only trails by three shots and one expects him to continue his momentum going in the final round.
As for the first round leaders Fowler and Longmuir, both faltered on the second day and had rounds of even-par 71 and over-over par, 72 on the second day respectively. Fowler was two-under after sixteen holes, but the long par-4, 17th really was
a hurdle for him. His drive off the tee landed in rough from where he failed to even make a bogey. The Australian was disappointed with his play on the third day.
The third and final day will commence tomorrow with the top five players vying for the trophy and winners’ cheque. Lane is expected to produce some fireworks on the final day to win his second European Senior Tour championship.
