Thailand Golf Championship – Ryo Ishikawa makes a strong move on the leaderboard
Japanese star Ryo Ishikawa fired a six-under par 66 in the second round of the Thailand Golf Championship, to enter into contention for the top spot on the leaderboard, on Friday, December 7, 2012.
Ishikawa, who recorded ten victories on his home soil, made a strong charge on the leaderboard, as he moved from the shared 21st place to the fifth spot, entering the last two rounds.
The Japanese youngster carded four birdies against a lone bogey on the front nine, to reach the turn in three under.
The back nine of the course witnessed him add another five shots to his scorecard, while conceding two bogeys, to accumulate a two-round total of an eight-under par 136.
At the end of the day, he found himself trailing the leader Charl Schwartzel by six strokes.
Talking to the Asian Tour’s website, he said that he was pleased to record nine birdies in a single round. In the meantime, he expressed his disappointment in conceding bogeys on the 9th and the 18th hole.
“It has been a long time since I shot nine birdies. It is good to have produced this result on this world class standard golf course. It was disappointing I bogeyed the ninth and 18th holes,” he said. “The pin placement for today gave me a chance to be aggressive.
I felt that I had easy chances for birdie”.
He now plans to remain consistent and post another low score on day three, in a bid to make another strong move on the leaderboard.
“The second day is over and I want to play tomorrow and not only be satisfied with today’s result. This course has been my favourite course for some time. I want to shoot lower scores and be in the last group on Sunday,” he said.
Schwartzel, in the meantime, added another 65 to his scorecard, to open up a three-stroke lead over Thitiphun Chuayprakong.
The defending champion Lee Westwood shared the ninth position, after carding a five-under par two-round score. Entering the last two rounds on the weekend, he was trailing Schwartzel by nine strokes.
