Thailand Open 2012: Boonyakorn Thumpanichwong beats Seung Ki Yim in Men’s Singles qualifying round
Thailand’s upcoming shuttler Boonyakorn Thumpanichwong showed his elite skills in front of his home crown when he defeated Korea’s Seung Ki Yim in Men’s Singles qualifying round at SCG Thailand Open 2012 on Tuesday, June 5, at Bangkok, Thailand.
The in-form Thai shuttler put up stunning show against his Korean opponent and emerged as the winner in three games by working to his full potential for 50 minutes in the court.
Boonyakorn, who was quite smooth in his footwork in the court, played remarkable badminton and overpowered Seung Ki in well-fought three games.
On the other hand, the Korean could not get familiar with the court conditions as he faced trouble in reading the pace of bird and eventually lost the match to his local opponent with a respectable difference on the score board.
In the first set, Seung Ki was impressive in opening rallies as he played with aggression and took an early lead over his Thai rival.
However, he failed to maintain the gap as his rival played with precision and levelled the score by reaching 8-8.
Until the one-minute break in opening set, the local shuttler was going ahead of the Korean on the score board at 11-9.
After the interval, Boonyakorn continued his power play without dropping the pace of rallies and eventually grabbed the set with a margin of 21-19.
In the second set, Seung Ki played with precision and managed to take a superb lead of 11-4 until the one-minute interval.
After the break, Boonyakorn played aggressive badminton but failed to catch up his rival and lost the game with a four-point deficit of 17-21.
In the deciding game, both shuttlers put in extra effort and remained toe-to-toe until the one-minute interval.
After the mid-game break, they remained focused in the court and the crowd could not have asked for better fight as both shuttlers were at the very best.
The score was 17-17 when Boonyakorn got inspiration from the roaring crowd and played with impressive speed which helped him to secure the set with a margin of 21-18.
Boonyakorn emerged as the winner in this sensational contest in 50 minutes with a tremendous 21-19, 17-21 and 21-18 score on the board.
