Thailand Open 2012: Hong Je Lee overpowers Shao Wen Hsu to surge into Men’s Singles main round
Korea’s Hong Je Lee had to put in extra effort to secure his berth in Men’s Singles main round as he took three games to oust Shao Wen Hsu of Chinese Taipei in qualifying round battle of SCG Thailand Open 2012 at Bangkok, Thailand, on Tuesday, June 5.
The higher ranked Hong Je, who is fourth seeded shuttler in Men’s Singles qualifying draw, worked hard to get rid of her stubborn opponent in a thrilling three set competition with an impressive margin on the board.
On the other hand, Shao Wen showed his remarkable skills in opening set and bagged it with a tight score. However, he lost his control over the pace of rallies and eventually lost the battle by dropping the following games to his Korean opponent.
The higher ranked Korean started his run in a poor way as he could not cope up with the aggression of his rival and remained struggling in the court.
However, Hong Lee somehow managed to take a slight lead on the score board by reaching at 11-10 until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Hong Lee geared up his speed and stretched the gap and reached at 19-15 but failed to take ending points and also committed many unforced errors and eventually lost the set to his Taipei opponent with a margin of 20-22.
Nevertheless, Hong Lee showed a strong display in the second game as he did not show any mercy to his rival and took an impressive 11-5 lead until the break.
After the interval, the higher ranked Korean continued his spirited play and easily won the game with a superb 21-10 margin on the board.
In the deciding game, Hong Lee took an early lead of 9-2 but failed to stop his rival from making the score levelled at 9-9. However, he took a small lead of 11-9 until the mid-game break.
After the interval, Hong Lee played positive and safe badminton while remaining patient in the court and eventually took it with a huge margin of 21-13.
Hong Lee won this thrilling rubber-set contest in 44 minutes with an entertaining 20-22, 21-10 and 21-13 score on the board.
