Thailand Open 2012: Hye In Choi, So Young Kim secure berth in Women’s Doubles pre quarter-finals
Women’s Doubles partners Hye In Choi-So Young Kim of Korea overwhelmed Savitree Amitrapai-Sapsiree Taerattanachai in first round of SCG Thailand Open and reserved a seat in pre quarter-finals of the event on June 7, 2012.
This epic 63-minute battle was staged at CU Sports Complex in Bangkok and was resolved with final results of 20-22, 21-15 and 21-9.
The victorious duo displayed unconquerable fighting spirit and surpassed this tough trial but real challenge is yet to come as they are now scheduled to face top seeded duo Xia Huan-Jinhua Tang in second round.
Earlier in their opening match, they managed to save some honour despite of losing first match point. They were not only facing local shuttlers but they were also battling with a huge crowd which was there to support the natives.
The Thai pair pocketed full benefits of home ground and opened their marathon in perfect fashion.
Though, duo of Savitree-Sapsiree remained at lower end in the beginning of first set but they managed to rise in the final moments.
This opening set started with immediate lead of Hye In Choi-So Young Kim who swiftly registered 11-7 until half time.
Later part of the game saw the local shuttlers bouncing back with a strong reply. They caught the Koreans at 12-12 and then raised their total to 17.
The Thai girls wrapped this segment of show with a tight yet decisive margin 22-20 on the board.
However, they could not capitalise this early advantage and failed to turn 1-0 lead into a straight-set victory.
This time, Hye In Choi and So Young Kim did not commit any mistake and dominated in significant part of the contest.
They gathered four quick points in start and then reached at decent total of eight before losing grip at mid-game break but they did not allow their rivals to make best out of this opportunity and levelled match score with significant figure of 21-15.
The decider turned one-sided affair as the Korean duo completely outclassed the opposing team and sealed a splendid win with 21-9 score on the board.
