Thailand Open 2012: Lam Narissapat, Saralee Thoungthongkam grasp Women’s Doubles crown

It was a splendid day for Thai badminton lovers as local couple Lam Narissapat-Saralee Thoungthongkam wore Women’s Doubles crown of SCG Thailand Open on June 10, 2012.
The victorious duo stamped higher ranked opponents Shu Cheng-Pan Pan of China to reserve highest spot on the victory stand. They exhibited admirable craft in court for 57 minutes and stole the show with 21-15, 10-21 and 21-13.
Lam Narissapat and Saralee, who were underdog earlier in this home event, did not show any sign of bewilderment against fifth ranked Chinese couple and dazzled them with an electrifying performance in opening and concluding segments of the show.
In first half of the opening set, the Thai campaigners did not give the opposing team even a single chance to read their game. They swiftly registered five points and then raised this lead to 9-4.
Though, the Chinese shuttlers caught them at 9-9 but still they managed to finish first half with a decent margin of 11-9.
Later part of the set was completely dominated by Lam Narissapat and Saralee as they won five consecutive points and placed a mountainous total of 16-9.
This turned final blow to their rivals as they surrendered after reading 15-21 score on the board.
However, World Number 23 pair Shu Cheng-Pan Pan served the notice of their supremacy in very next set when they completely outclassed the local shuttlers in all departments of game.
This time they played fast badminton and set the foundation of their dominance with 7-2 and then strengthened their grip by ending first half with a significant advantage of 11-4.
After the interval, they did not drop this pace and registered a remarkable total of 17-7. This 10-point lead turned consequential and the Chinese team levelled match score with a striking total of 21-10.
Third and final set remained neck-to-neck tussle until 7-7 but then Thai shuttlers gathered speed and managed to reach at 11-8 before mid-game break.
Lam Narissapat and Saralee gave their supporters a solid reason to celebrate after registering a winning total of 21-13.
