Thailand Open 2012: Ratchanok Inthanon topples Wang Lin in Women’s Singles semi-final battle
Thailand’s ace player Ratchanok Inthanon lived up to the expectations of her home fans when she surged into Men’s Singles final after toppling China’s Wang Lin in semi-final battle at Thailand Open Grand Prix Gold 2012 in Bangkok, on Saturday, June 9.
Ratchanok, who is seeded at number two in the main draw, was in full control of the game while playing against the in-form Chinese opponent and emerged as victorious in a comprehensive fashion by taking just 38 minutes.
The World Number 11 Ratchanok remained impressive throughout the tournament and continued her winning run against Lin as well. She thrashed the Chinese rival in straight games with a striking margin on the board.
Lin, on the other hand, failed to produce better form against her in-form Thai rival who was enjoying the support of huge home crowd. The Chinese failed to take any game and lost the match in straight sets.
In the first game, Lin showed her brilliance by playing attacking badminton but failed to continue her dominating performance as Ratchanok did not take much time in catching up the score.
The impressive Ratchanok was in full swing in the opening half of first set and set up a reasonable lead of 11-8 until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Ratchanok continued her fascinating performance without losing her focus and eventually grabbed the opening game of the match with a sensational 21-13 score on the board.
In the second set, Lin played to her maximum speed and put up strong resistance to her local challenger. The score progressed equally as both ladies were showing their best in the court.
Until the mid-game break in second set, it was the lower ranked Chinese shuttler who took a two-point lead of 11-9 on the score board.
After the break, both ladies kept the pace of rallies high and maintained their focus in the court. The score reached at 19-19 when Ratchanok showed her class and took two consecutive points to grab the set in a thrilling way by a margin of 21-19.
Ratchanok stamped her mark over Lin in straight games of 38 minutes with a superb 21-13 and 21-19 margin on the score board.
