Thailand Open 2012: Sony Dwi Kuncoro trounces Sourabh Varma to ease into Men’s Singles semi-final
Indonesia’s Sony Dwi Kuncoro stamped his supremacy in the court as he eased into Men’s Singles semi-final after trouncing India’s Sourabh Varma in the quarter-final clash at Thailand Open GP Gold 2012 at Bangkok, Thailand, on Friday, June 8.
Kuncoro, who is un-seeded in the tournament, put up superb show of top class badminton and remained successful in beating his in-form opponent Sourabh who was the 12th seeded player in Men’s Singles draw of Thailand Open.
The experienced Indonesian employed his tremendous skills in the court and registered a comprehensive victory over the Indian shuttler by ending up the fight in straight games while taking just half an hour in the court.
The higher ranked Indian, on the other hand, was completely unable to respond well against the fireworks of his Indonesian opponent and lost to his rather easily in a completely one-sided manner.
In the opening game, Kuncoro did not consumed enough time in taking a sensational lead over his Indian opponent by playing smart badminton.
From the starting points, the Indonesian was in commanding position as he did not make any mistake and remained far ahead until the one-minute interval.
After the mid-game interval, Sourabh tried a little to narrow the gap but failed to shake the rhythm Kuncoro who was impressive in the court.
The Indonesian was on a completely different level as he played at his maximum speed and did not let Sourabh to play his usual game throughout the opening set.
Kuncoro remained successful in taking the opening game with an impressive easy by a stunning 21-6 score on the board.
In the second set, Sourabh tried to give a good fight in the opening rallies but again failed to put up strong resistance against the power play of his lower ranked Indonesian rival.
The Indian dropped his speed and was certainly not at his best as he missed many easy chances to earn points. Until the break, he was trailing miles behind the Indonesian on the score board.
After the break, Kuncoro maintained the speed at the highest level and also did note let his rival to catch up the huge difference on the board. He finished up the second game impressively with a superb 21-8 score on the board.
Kuncoro emerged as the winning in this lopsided straight-set quarter-final contest with a one-sided margin of 21-6 and 21-8.
