Thailand Open 2012: Srikanth K smacks Marius Myhre down in opening match of main round
India’s talented campaigner Srikanth K defeated Marius Myhre in the opening match and made his way into second round of the SCG Thailand Open on June 6, 2012.
Both Men’s Singles experts had to sweat hard for 40 minutes to read final results 14-21, 21-12 and 21-7 on the board.
Young shuttler Marius Myhre of Norway took off in perfect manner by bagging very first match point but he could not make best out of this early advantage and crashed in last two games.
The Indian lad, who also grabbed Maldives International title last week, looked at his best despite of going down in the opening set.
First set of the match started with an immediate lead of Marius who clinched five continuous points in no time. Though, Srikanth also dominated next four rallies but still he kept trailing behind until 8-5.
The Norwegian doubled the impact by reaching at 11-5 before the announcement of one-minute break. He continued dictating the opposing shuttler in later part of game also and established an unassailable lead with 16-10.
This deficit proved final blow to Srikanth as he knelt down after reading concluding score 14-21 on the board.
However, the story was entirely different in second set as the Indian player switched on the best in him and played with an authoritative approach.
This time he gained seven back-to-back points straight away in start and kept his rival at lower end all the way to final moments.
In first half of set, he jumped at 7-1 without wasting any time but Marius’s giant leap resulted in 8-8 margin.
Later, Srikanth managed to end first segment with a slight edge in 11-10 total and made amends in second half.
After the interval, he showed a transformed character as he did not drop even a single chance and placed a formidable total of 18-12. He levelled match score by registering a notable win with 21-12 margin.
The Norwegian turned sitting duck in the decider as young Srikanth hunted him down with great ease.
He convincingly overpowered his competitor with 21-7 and setup a clash with badminton king Lin Dan in second round of Thailand Open.
