Thailand Open 2013: Srikanth K. beats Thammasin Sitthikom to secure final – Badminton news
India’s young and spirited player, Srikanth K., stretched his incredible run and reached into Men’s Singles final after winning the semi-final clash against the local player, Thammasin Sitthikom at SCG Thailand Open 2013 in Bangkok, on Saturday, June 8.
The impressive Srikanth, who is 13th seed in Men’s Singles main draw of Thailand Open, stayed focused in the semi-final contest and easily overpowered the spirited Thammasin in a 43-minute contest.
The Indian man was quick and aggressive in executing his shots from all areas of the court. He played tremendous badminton under pressure and got the prize by winding up the match in two games with a superb margin of 21-14 and 21-18.
On the contrary, the un-seeded Thammasin found no way out of the positive and attacking play of his Indian opponent. He also failed to handle the pressure in the ending points and lost the match without winning any set.
Both shuttlers were toe-to-toe in the starting points when they took the bird early and executed powerful smashes from the back of the court.
However, the Indian lad started to show his impressive skills as he injected variations in his shots and changed the tempo of rallies. These variations helped Srikanth in leading the scoreboard with a decent margin until the end of opening half.
After the one-minute break, Thammasin increased his speed to tackle the attacking play of his rival. However, he failed to place his shots in gaps and remained miles behind on the board.
Meanwhile, Srikanth maintained the pace at the highest level and he easily wrapped up the first game with a superb margin of 21-14.
In the second game, Thammasin showed his brilliance by playing flawless badminton at net. He did not let Srikanth play freely and managed to stay close until the mid-game interval.
After the break, the higher ranked Indian shuttler changed his tactics and started to take the bird early at net. It worked well and he pushed Thammasin on back foot in ending points.
The Indian shuttler controlled his nerves and remained successful in finishing the second game with a decent margin of 21-18 and secured his berth in the final.
