Thailand Open GP Gold 2012: Shu Wada overwhelms Joo Ven Soong in Men’s Singles first round clash
Japan’s upcoming shuttler Shu Wada found a good start as he overpowered Malaysia’s Joo Ven Soong in Men’s Singles first round encounter at the SCG Thailand Open GP Gold 2012 on Wednesday, June 6, at Bangkok, Thailand.
The impressive Japanese shuttler employed his elite skills and worked really hard for three games to oust his Malaysian opponent and advanced into Men’s Singles second round.
Wada failed to find a good start as he could not dominate the pace and lost opening game with a tight margin. However, he made a strong comeback and took the following games to prove his supremacy in the court.
On the other hand, Joo Ven played to his full potential in opening set but could not maintain his gutsy performance in the following games and lost to his Japanese rival in three sets with a considerable score on the board.
In the opening game, the Malaysian controlled the pace from opening points and did not let the Japanese to take the bird early by putting variations in his shots.
Joo Ven did not let Wada to read the game and remained ahead until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Wada played fast badminton but failed to create gaps and also remained unable to stop the progress of his Malaysia challenger. He lost the first game with a three-point deficit of 18-21 on the board.
In the following set, the Japanese got furious as he starting to execute powerful smashes and strong pushes while taking the bird early from all areas of the court. Until the break, he was miles ahead on the score board.
After the break, Wada remained in commanding position without dropping his speed and easily clinched the set with a phenomenal margin of 21-10.
In the deciding game, the both players entertained the local fans by playing attacking badminton until the score reached at 8-8.
At this stage, the Japanese defied all odds by playing aggressive badminton and remained successful in winning the game with a superb 21-14 score on the board.
Wada emerged as the winner in this rubber-set fight of 47 minutes with a margin of 18-21, 21-10 and 21-14.
