Thailand Open GP Gold: Thammasin Sitthikom ousts Dong Keun Lee in Men’s Singles first round
Thailand’s talented shuttler Thammasin Sitthikom cheered his home crowd as he secured his berth in Men’s Singles second round after registering a thrilling victory over Korea’s Dong Keun Lee in first round clash at the SCG Thailand Open GP Gold 2012 in Thailand,
on Wednesday, June 6.
The un-seeded Thammasin displayed a terrific show of attacking badminton and remained successful in winning this thrilling battle against his Korean rival in three games.
Thammasin found a perfect start as he played positive game and grabbed the first set with a tremendous margin. However, he lost his focus and lost the second game but managed to win the third set with a tight margin and registered win over his rival.
On the other hand, the Korean got a severe treatment from his rival in opening set but managed to win the second game. However, he remained unlucky in the ending points of final game and lost the contest with a tight score on the board.
In the opening set, Thammasin played on a different level as he smashed his rival without showing any mercy and took a stunning lead until the mid-game interval.
After the break, the Thai shuttler continued his roller-coaster performance against the Korean and took the set easily with a superb score of 21-11.
In the following set, Dong Keun played positive game and remained close to his local opponent this time. Until the one-minute break, both shuttlers remained close on the score board.
After the break, they continued pushing each other in all areas of the court. It was Thammasin who failed to play dominating badminton in the ending phase of second game and lost it with a respectable score of 19-21.
In the deciding set, both men again showed their brilliance in the court by playing positive and aggressive badminton. They remained close in the opening half and also continued playing attacking game until the ending points.
At this crucial stage, Thammasin put up a spirited display and grabbed the ending points to win the set with a margin of 21-19.
Thammasin won this thrilling competition in three games with a superb 21-11, 19-21 and 21-19 score on the board.
