Thailand defeats China 3-2 in a FIVB World Grand Prix match – Volleyball news
The last match of the third day of the final round of the FIVB World Grand Prix was held between Thailand and China on Friday, June 29, 2012. The host city of the final matches is Ningbo, China where the teams play against each other at the Ningbo Beilun
Gymnasium. The two teams put up a thrilling show for the 5800 spectators that had come to watch the match but most went disappointed as Thailand defeated the home team by 3-2.
Thailand was able to earn itself a win in two hours and 18 minutes at the following final set scores: 21-25, 25-22, 34-32, 21-25 and 15-13.
The coach of the Thai squad, Kiattipong Radchatagriengkai, shared his views at the win by making the following comments, “Thailand played with strong speed, maybe our body is not strong enough but they play their best performance. Wish China get better and
have good condition for the Olympic Game.”
On the other hand, the home team coach Yu Juemin had the following statements to give about the performance of his team, “According to our plan, our setter Wei would not play today, but we have to send her on despite her injury because we could not organize
our offense well. Our reception was not stable and that affected our attacking.”
The best scorer of the match was the Thai player Onuma Sittirak who put up an impressive score of 30 points all through the match while the most points scored on the Chinese side were by Junjing Yang as she kept the pressure on her rivals by scoring 18.
The opening set started off with a Thai lead at 7-3 but China did not let them get away with the advantage and tied the score at 8-8. After that point, China propelled themselves forward to grab a lead at 16-11 with the coming of the second technical time
out. China came back refreshed and extended their advantage to 22-17 to bag the set later at 25-21.
The second set started off with both the teams playing equally well and the frame reached a tie a total of six times before China could manage to lead at the second technical time out at 16-13. However, China fell to making errors that gave the lead away
to Thailand at 17-16 that stretched till 23-21 and finally ended in a win for Thailand at 25-22.
The energy at the second set win drove Thailand to a 6-2 lead in the third set that went further till 8-5 but China did not let them get further and tied the match at 12-12. The match got to another tie at 22-22 and stayed competitive but Thailand eventually
bagged it at 34-32.
The home team was able to take the match to a fifth set by securing the fourth one at 25-21 but Thailand prevailed in earning a win in the final set at 15-13.
