Thailand defeats Japan by 3-2 in pool play of Women World Grand Prix – Volleyball news
A Pool F match of the FIVB World Grand Prix was played on June 17, 2012 between Thailand and Japan. The contest was being staged in the Japanese city of Komaki. Both the teams put on an intense show that went on for five thrilling sets but ended in an impressive
win for Thailand over the home team.
The score board showed the following final set scores, 25-15, 16-25, 22-25, 25-19 and 18-16.
The first two as well as the fourth set of the match were pretty much one sided but both Thailand and Japan kept the score close in the third set while the fifth and final set of the match went long and hard , resulting in a well deserved win for Thailand.
The coach of the Thai squad, Radchatagriengkai Kiattipong, shared his happiness at the win in the following words, “First I’d like to congratulate my players today on their win...It was a very hard game for them, as Japan played every point very well. But
they came back in fourth and the fifth unified, and they play 100 percent to win.”
On the other hand, the Japanese coach Masayosi Manabe, made the following comments at the outcome of the match, “In this game we had lots of points as a team, but and we got to see the strong points and weak points of many of our players. Before the round
in Osaka next week, I’m still not decided about which players will be best for the Olympics.”
The player with the highest number of points in the match was Yukiko Ebata of Japan with 22 points. On the other hand, Pleumjit Thinkow, Onuma Sittirak, and Wilavan Apinyapong of Thailand all tallied the highest scores in their team by putting up 16 points
each.
The Thai come out strong in the opening set of the game by taking the lead at 9-5 and stretching the advantage to 16-8. The home team kept trailing behind as the guests sped up to bag the first set of the game at 25-15.
The Japanese came out determined in the second set and were able to take the lead at 11-9 and still stay up at 17-13. The Thai squad fell to making errors that gave another boast to the Japanese making them reach 21-15 which ended in an easy home team win
at 25-16.
The home team was still leading in the third set at 11-8 and stuck with the advantage at 21-17. The Thai tried to close in the gap but they could not manage to overtake their opponents as Japan won the set at 25-22.
Thailand stepped up their game in the fourth frame and stormed ahead to secure it at 25-19. The fifth set proceeded in a competitive manner but ended up in a win for Thailand at 18-16.
