Thailand intercepts Korea in group match of Asian Junior Championships 2012 – Badminton News
Thailand elevated its chances of a quarter-final seat by trouncing Korea in group match of Badminton Asia Youth Under-19 Mixed Team Championships on Sunday, July 1, 2012.
This junior championship is regarded as prestigious team event. This year teams have been divided into four groups.
Only top two teams from each group will make it to the knock-out round and Thailand has made a strong bid by sealing 3-2 victory against second ranked team of Group C.
They set foundation of supremacy in very first tie when Mixed Doubles experts Sitthikom Thammasin and Narissapat Lam snatched vital match point from Korean duo Kwon Young Bae-Seung Chan Shin.
They wrapped the show in just two games by registering 21-19 and 21-14 score on the board.
This 26-minute tussle set the right momentum for remaining Thai shuttlers and Men’s Singles campaigner Khosit Phetpradab pocketed full benefits of this upper hand to oust Jae Wook Jung in first Singles tie.
He took just 29 minutes to seal a splendid straight-set win with favourable margin of 22-20 and 22-20.
However, Korea avoided further embarrassment and saved its honour to some extent in the next segment of the battle.
Men’s Doubles team Sol Kyu Choi-Se Woong Park forged a fruitful chemistry against Saksarun Ampanporn-Tossapol Thawornwong and fetched a crucial match point.
They played impeccable badminton in this 21 minute-fight and registered decisive figure of 21-8 and 21-10.
Next game proved final blow for Koreans as their Women’s Singles expert Hyo Min Kim failed to rise against Busanan Ongbunrungphan and crashed out after facing a 2-0 defeat.
This most captivating segment of the show prolonged to 33 minutes and both female shuttlers snapped each other’s heels to lock the honour.
The final result of 17-21 and 17-21 gave Thailand a solid reason to start celebration as they stamped their supremacy with 3-1 match score.
Last chapter of this saga became insignificant and Korea’s Women’s Doubles partners Seung Chan Shin-So Hee Lee could only take their country to a respectable conclusion with 21-6 and 21-18 win over Narissapat Lam-Maetanee Phattanaphitoon.
Now Thailand has become group winner with this 3-2 victory and Malaysia will be its challenger in next round of this team event.
