  1. thats great

cost of living is really low there n quality of life is good enough,

  2. Live like Thai ? More than Enough.

Live like Foriegner come to live in Thailand and fancy night life and huge palace Not enough.

Have a wife more than enough.

Have many lovers , not enough.

    Facts.

Thai people live on 30000 baht for a very good life here.

And in general they survive and have small fun onec in a while for 8000 baht / month.

Don't be so meterialistic you will be ok anywhere.

    HAve fun!

  3. Agree with Khun Bob - it's not enormous especially for Bangkok. If they pay for housing/car and other expenses you'll get by if not I'd reconsider the offer.

  4. As you can see from the answers above - the answer to your question depends on where you are coming from - - I think if you made that much in the western world, you would have trouble supporting yourself - bkk is certainly cheaper than any Western city and you can live ok on that money; I know people living ok on less - - but you will not be living in luxury, but I think you know that too - - though you still can live nicely - - I have a friend living near Sukhumvit in a high rise w/a nice big pool for 15,000 a month - utilities and water add 3,000 - leaves you plenty of money to live ok - food is cheap - I think it is ok!

  5. It entirely depends:

If you're going expat for 3-5 years (which is the usual term for an expatriate manager) it's pathetic. An expat manager always receives the same salary as in the home country, plus compensations, plus promotion upon return. (That is why you see very few expat managers nowadays in Thailand; they are expensive!)

If you're in an end slot (no more promotions to look forward to), are planning to retire to Thailand anyway, it is an excellent salary.

  6. ignor the first 2 guys, 70000 is a good money.

usually BA. graduated thai will get somewhere 10000-25000

70000 a month is a big money in a relatively cheap place like thailand.

you can live with that much money in tokyo, what on earth consider this pay as a low income in a cheaper city like bangkok? (in bangkok with that salary, you are .... almost the god! may be guy earning more than you will be the god but you will be really close to god!)

let me know if you do not want that job, i will apply for it! so i can get out of this hellhole call tokyo!

  7. The money is ok - not great. Its about the same as what I make. Most people who live on 30,000 Baht a month live in what you could describe as a bedsit. Not what you want. With 70k you can afford something more decent such as a 12-15,000 Baht a month apartment.

  8. If you're into the nightlife here, it won't be nearly enough.

  9. I agree with Reslee. The offer is more than enough for a Thai. But it depends on the kind of lifestyle you want to have while in Thailand. If you want to live like a tourist, of course that wouldn't be enough. It also depends on the job that you would be doing. If the job requires ordinary skills, then you can't bargain much. If the job requires special skills (something that an ordinary Thai employee isn't capable of doing) like software design or telecommunications engineering, then you can definitely bargain more.

    Also, consider the following things:

    - Apartment Rent (Baht 10,000 for a decent apartment)

    - Transportation (Taxi are easily available at all times. But clarify with your prospective employer if you would be provided with a car for your use).

    - Taxation (the salary figure offered to you seem to fall on the 10% taxation bracket. Assume that 10% of your monthly salary is deducted for tax).

    - Medical costs (if you get sick, who will pay for your medical expenses?. Clarify this with your employer.)

    - Food, beer (very cheap)

    - occassional bitchin' around the town (Baht 2,000 reasonable for each time. You end up broke if you do like that every night).

Contrary to somebody's comment, forget about being offered more than what you usually earn in your home country. If you normally get $4,000 monthly in the US, don't expect to get that much in Thailand (except when the job requires such a high skill that it's impossible to fill the job with a locally hired Thai employee). Also, consider the difference in the cost of living. In Thailand, you can have 3 full meals with $10 in your pocket. In the US, you can only have a burger with that money.

  10. go to www.ajarn.com and see what foreign graduates are being paid to teach English, and that might help you appreciate what 71,000 Baht is

Again you can live in an OK place fot about 6000 but if you want it in the expat area you can pay a lot more

    Hope that helps

  11. My income is more then that and I don't have to work for it anymore.  However, for a expat it is low, you don't mention what type of work that would be important for others to give a good answer.  Also, is your company paying for housing, transportation or another other benefits.

My point is yes you can live on that amount of money here.  However for an expat the salary seems low.
