Thailand looks forward to host F1 grand prix in 2015 – Formula 1 news
Thailand’s National Sports Authority Governor, Kanokphand Chulakasem has said that they are eagerly looking forward to host a Formula 1 grand prix in their capital, Bangkok in 2015.
Earlier this year, Chulakasem said that they will hopefully host the race in 2014. However, F1 chief executive officer, Bernie Ecclestone has recently said that it is not possible to organise a race in Bangkok by 2014 and asserted that it is more expected
to occur in 2015.
"They say 2014 and I say 2015," he said. "It is serious and it is good."
Nevertheless, Chulakasem has expressed his agreement with the 82-year-old and has said that they will host a race in 2015 rather than 2014. He added that they cannot go with their prior plan as they are facing some implications.
"An F1 race is likely to take place here in early 2015 instead of in 2014 in our initial plan," Chulakasem told the Bangkok Post.
Moreover, he said that the location of the race has been finalised and it is be held at night in Bangkok.
"It is likely to be held in Bangkok. With Thailand on the calendar, a current race is likely to be removed," he said.
It will be interesting to mention that Bangkok has recently hosted the Race of the Champions at Rajamangala stadium in which Red Bull Racing driver, Sebastian Vettel and his compatriot, Michael Schumacher won the team event for Germany. On the other hand,
Romain Grosjean of Lotus claimed the individual trophy in the ROC.
It is to be noted that Chumpol Silpa-archa, who is the tourism and sports minister, has said that the government will contribute around sixty percent of the total expenditure of hosting the race in Bangkok and the remaining money will come from the private
companies. Additionally, it has been reported that Red Bull will also provide the necessary funding for the race.
Ecclestone is playing a big role in taking the sport to new destinations. If the race in Thailand will occur in 2015, it will be the third one, after the races in New Jersey and Russia, to make its way to the F1 calendar.
