Thailand moves to final round of Women World Grand Prix defeating Serbia 3-1 – Volleyball news

A Pool J match of the FIVB World Grand Prix – Women took place on Saturday June 23, 2012. The two teams that contested against each other were the home squad of Thailand and guest team of Serbia. The city of Bangkok played host to the competition between
the two sides that took four sets to reach its close by the end of which Thailand was celebrating its 3-1 win.
The score board showed the following final set scores: 12-25 25-16 25-19 and 25-21.
The recent win has enabled the home squad to earn a place in the final round of the championship.
The coach of the Thai team, Kiattipong Radchatagriengkai, expressed himself in the following words while commenting on the outcome of the match, “I gave credits to players and staff coaches for the today’s win over Serbia. I also would like to thank all
Thai fans at the competition venue and those watching us via live broadcast. Their supports had boosted my team’s spirit. I think we had a tough match against Serbia.”
On the other hand, the coach of the Serbian side, Branko Kovacevic, shared his views by making the following statements, “The competition venue was packed with an audience. I think it’s fantastic for hosts Thailand to have their supporters cheer them all
the ways.”
The player with the highest number of points in the match was Onuma Sittirak of Thailand as she tallied a score of 17. Sittirak was helped by her team mate Wilavan Apinyapong who kept the pressure on her rivals by making 16 kills. On the Serbian side, Nadja
Ninkovic was the most active player as she managed to keep her side of the scoreboard ticking by adding 13 points.
The Serbians got themselves the lead at 5-0 as soon as the opening set of the match started. Thailand tried to close in the gap but the Serbian sped ahead and kept the advantage all through the first set that ended in their favour at 25-12.
The loss of the first set enabled Thailand to step up their game in the second frame and they were able to take the lead at 4-1. Despite the fact that Serbia tried to swing things around, Thailand proved to be too strong as they kept stretching their advantage
till 16-8 and still maintained the lead at 21-13. After that it was only a matter of time before Thailand bagged the second set at 25-16.
Thailand secured the advantage at 5-1 in the third set and extended it to 12-5. Serbia kept trailing behind as Thailand went for another set win at 25-19. The fourth set saw some spark from the Serbian side as the frame got to a tie at 9-9. Thailand maintained
a small lead at 23-21 but managed to land the final point and secure the frame at 25-21.
