Thailand wins Pool G match of the FIVB Girls’ Youth World Championship
A Pool G match of the FIVB Girls’ Youth World Championship saw the Thai compete with the Egyptians on 16th August in Ankara, Turkey.
The venue of the competition was the Ankara Arena. At the end of the day, the world number 14 Thai team had made a clean sweep over the number 10 ranking Egyptians. This is the first victory for Thailand after having to deal with three losses in the first
round of the tournament.
The first set of the game was fairly one sided as the Egyptians were seen to be playing out of sync. The Thai took advantage of the fact and grabbed the opening set of the frame. In the second set, the performance of the Thai team improved whereas that of
the Egyptians slackened that resulted in another win for Thailand. The third set of the match competitive but the Egyptians could not make it to the end as Thailand bagged the final set and won the match at the following final set scores: 25-15, 25-12 and
25-22.
The coach of the Thai team, Jarun Niemtuptim, expressed himself in the following manner at the press conference after the match, “Most of our players played very good today. At the third set Egypt team push harder but we manage to win. I don't know why they
did not played this way in previous sets. Tomorrow we will play with USA and it will be the main fight for us.”
Whereas the Egyptian coach, Ahmed Mohamed, gave these statements, “I don't know what to say. We didn't play good today. I congratulate the Thailand team. Our receptions at first two set was too bad. At the last set we really try to win but you couldn't.
We will work harder for other games.”
The first technical time out of the opening set came with a Thai lead at 8-4 and they still had the lead at the second technical time out at 16-9. The Egyptians did not give up just yet and tried to close in the gap but the Thai prevailed in extending their
advantage and bagging the first set at 25-15.
The start of the second set saw both the teams get locked in a tough fight but the Thai squad ended up with the advantage at the first technical time out at 8-5 and still had the advantage later on at 16-9. Despite the fact that the Egyptians tried to swing
the game in their favour, Thailand made a short story out of the set and scrapped off an easy win at 25-12.
The third set of the match took on an intense tone from the beginning. The score was close at 18-16, with Thailand in the lead that eventually translated into a Thai win at 25-22.
The player that was able to tally the most points for Thailand was Kuttika Kaewpin as she registered 18 points while the Egyptian Farida El Askalany scored seven points for her team.
