Thailand wins first match of Pool A in Women World Grand Prix – Volleyball news
Thailand played the first match of Pool A of the World Grand Prix- Women on June 8, 2012 with Argentina.
The Thai squad was able to come out strong and dominate their rivals by making a clean sweep. The Pool A matches of the tournament are being held in the Chinese city of Macau.
The scoreboard showed the following final set scores: 25-18, 25-9 and 25-22.
The first set of the game was the Argentineans put in a half hearted effort which led to an easy win for the Thai but in the second set, Thailand was able to completely smoother their rivals. The loss of the first two sets seemed to have put some energy
into the Argentineans in the third frame but the Thai squad was in too much form to let the frame slide out of their hands.
The coach of the Argentinean squad, Horacio Bastit, shared his feelings at the loss in the following words, “Despite the unfavourable result we were happy to play Thailand today. Thailand’s game is very consistent and they have very good serves. It is very
difficult for Argentina to play against Asian teams as we are not used to the way they played.”
On the other hand, the Thai coach Kiattipong Radchatagriengkai, expressed his happiness at the win by giving the following comments, “All teams in the World Grand Prix are very good teams so there are no easy matches. I am happy with our team’s effort in
our win today, and at the same time we appreciate that Argentina is a brilliant team, especially with the way they played in the third set.”
The opening set of the game saw the Thailand take the lead early on and shift the pressure onto the Argentineans. In order to break the momentum of the Thai squad, the coach of the Argentineans called for a time out but to no avail. Argentina could not close
in the gap as Thailand sped to a 25-18 win.
The second set ended in lightening speed as the Thai took no time in securing it at 25-9. However, Thailand was able to get into a lead at 19-15 in the third set but eventually lost it at 25-22.
