Thailand’s Kiradech Aphibarnrat sets his eye on Malaysian Open – Asian Tour News
The youngster from Thailand who is coming off his maiden victory of SAIL Open has now set his eyes on another tournament. Thai Kiradech Aphibarnrat recently secured an Asian Tour win and is now eyeing the Mayabank Malaysian Open.
The US$ 2.5 million Malaysian Open event will start from 14th April in Kuala Lumpur Golf Club. The four day event will feature some of Europe’s top ranked players.
Aphibarnrat hits the ball well and is a strong lad; he played well during his last outing of SAIL Open and won against players like Gaganjeet Bhullar and Prom Meesawat.
The 21-year-old came from behind to win the tournament. His nearest rival was Siddikur Rahman of Bangladesh. The youngster won by a margin of just one stroke and is now hungry for more victories in his early career.
Thailand has already produced some great players like Thaworn Wirachant and Thongchai Jaidee. Following their footsteps, the youngster who turned his status to professional almost three years back, has set high targets for himself.
This will be a tough task for the player who will have to battle it hard to lift his second Asian Tour win. He loves playing at that course and almost won here last year.
Since he turned professional, it was a bit frustrating for him as he was not performing up to his standards. It was a journey full of miseries for him which ended last week; this victory has given him much hope and was a great confidence booster for him.
After winning his first win, the youngster said, “The Asian Tour has done a lot for me and I’m going to play as much as I can on the Tour. I’ll try to win one co-sanction tournament this year. Hopefully this win will give me more confidence to bring my game
to the next level.”
Aphibarnrat has some bad memories from last year: he shared the lead going into the final round, but failed to grab the opportunity. The tournament was won by the Korean sensation Nohn Seung-yul.
The 21-year-old Thai was clearly upbeat when he made a birdie on the final hole of the SAIL Open this year, nabbing a victory that eluded him last time.
He is all charged up for the Malaysian Open and is confident of continuing his winning momentum in the tournament. He is ranked at the 3rd spot in Asian Tour Order of Merit.
