Thammasin Sitthikom beats Riyanto Subagja in Men’s Singles qualifying round of Thailand Open GP Gold
Thailand’s Thammasin Sitthikom has defeated Riyanto Subagja of Indonesia, in the Men’s Singles qualifying round of the Thailand Open GP Gold 2011, at Bangkok, Thailand, on Tuesday, June 7.
Thammasin worked hard for 57 minutes to beat the World Number 197, Riyanto, in a top-quality three-set match, which grabbed the attention of the cheering crowd, who supported the local shuttler throughout the contest.
The opening set was an even fight where no one could manage a comfortable lead. Both players delivered their best performance as they kept the pace of the game quite high. The powerful smashes from both sides, along with strong pushes kept the score close.
In the first-half of the opening game, the Indonesian was slightly ahead of Thammasin by taking a one-point lead.
In the second part of the opening game, both players once again were toe-to-toe, as they continued to play to their full potential. The match became more interesting when the score reached at 20-20, where Thammasin made a crucial mistake and lost the opening
game by a close difference of 20-22, in 21 minutes.
The second game was more interesting for the crowd, as the local shuttler played better when compared to the Indonesian, who made many mistakes by playing wrong shots. Thammasin found his momentum by remaining focused in the game and utilised every chance
of scoring points.
Riyanto tried to dominate the rallies but he failed to place the bird in an effective manner. Thammasin kept a firm control over the rallies and won the game by a good margin of 21-17, by taking 19 minutes.
Thammasin lifted the level of his game in the final set by playing an attacking game, with superb stroke placements. Every smash of the local shuttler landed perfectly in the gaps of his opponent’s court. The Indonesian could not stop the impressive run
of Thammasin, who was just unstoppable.
The spirited Thai clinched the game in convincing fashion in just 17 minutes, by a score of 21-14. Thammasin won the match by a difference of 20-22, 21-17 and 21-14.
