Thammasin Sitthikom overpowers Abhimanyu Singh in quarter-final of Singapore International Series
Thailand’s talented player Thammasin Sitthikom showed his aggression and advanced into Men’s Singles semi-final after showing exit to Abhimanyu Singh of India in quarter-final clash at Singapore International Series 2012 on Thursday, August 16, in Singapore.
The impressive Thammasin, who has been seeded at number 15 in Men’s Singles draw of the event, had to dig into his arsenal to overpower his un-seeded Indian opponent in a thrilling contest that took three games of top class badminton.
The higher ranked Thammasin played poor badminton in opening set but found a good flow in the following sets and wrapped up victory by ending up the contest in rubber sets with a reasonable margin on the score board.
On the other hand, the un-seeded Abhimanyu played with precision in opening game and took it with an impressive margin. However, he failed to remain consistent in the following sets and lost the match in a respectable fashion.
In the first set, Thammasin could not live up to expectations as his rival was aggressive on court. He failed to play dominating badminton and remained struggling until the one-minute break.
After the interval, Thammasin tried his best to bridge the gap on score board but failed to stop the aggressive play of his opponent and lost the set with a 14-21 score on the board.
In the second set, Thammasin played fast and positive game and remained in commanding position until the mid-game interval when he was ahead on score board.
After the 60-second break, the higher ranked Thammasin continued putting up positive and aggressive show and managed to end up the set with a decent margin of 21-17.
In the deciding game, Thammasin was everywhere on court as he played with precision and took a stunning lead in the opening half.
After the one-minute break, Thammasin showed no mercy to his Indian opponent and remained successful in ending up the second game with a huge 21-9 score on the board.
The 15th seeded Thammasin emerged as the winner in this quarter-final clash in rubber sets with a reasonable score of 14-21, 21-17 and 21-9.
