Question:

Thank you-note to my boss for letting me work. Help?

Hi (this might be a bit cheesy...so here we go):

After doing pretty bad in school last semester, I was beginning to wonder if my major (comp sci) was what I really wanted to do. Well I had landed an internship at a transportation lab near campus for the summer.

Long story short, it was just the thing I needed. I got exposure to big projects and picked up on three languages (php, mysql and javascript) and now my passion for software engineering had picked up again and now I have even more willpower to study harder this coming semester.

I really want to write a meaningful thank you note to my boss for giving me an opportunity to work here. But...I don't know how to go about it. Any tips?

Thanks!

  1. A short note, mentioning a couple of the benefits you gained as you have written them above, will tick all the boxes.

    Something like

Dear Mr Ferguson(or Fred, if it is a first names office)

Thank you so much for making my work experience with(company)so constructive and enjoyable.

Having worked with you, I have realised that this is the field in which I want to work in future. This was especially due to(here you give your areas of learning)and particularly the help you gave me, which has motivated me to do even better when I return to school.

I hope that we meet again when I am working in the field.

    Yours faithfully

    Bruce Attwood

  2. i wrote a letter to my "supervisor" for giving me a chance to work. i have suffered a traumatic brain injury, which has left me w/ skills i cannot grasp again.

just tell him how you feel, and that you are thankful for the opportunity, and cannot wait to get better at what you do.

it sounds like you've got all your apples off in one basket, and it sounds as though you are content where you are but would like to go further. i'd just tell your boss, what you said in here... i'd leave out the mumbo jumbo about co-workers, or what may be wrong, just make it supportive, and polite, and nice.

i'd make sure that it was written in a professional form, letter, or um, memo... just type up a rough draft, and go through there, and make corrections, i'm sure after re-reading it, you can knock out the stuff that is less important, from the point that you are trying to make.

there's nothing wrong w/ you writing a thank you note to your boss. don't feel as though you are doing anything wrong. you are not.

my supervisor ate shelled peanuts. i picked him up a big bag of them, because he was getting low, and i always seen him eating them. it was just a nice gesture.

  3. a nice meaningful note will be enough.

  4. It doesn't have to be long, and it doesn't have to be "deep". A simple "Thank You" card will suffice. You can say something to the effect that you are grateful for the opportunity to work there.
