Question:

Thanks for your help!?

I picked up my glasses this morning. The optician said I should be wearing them for all distance activities. I didn't think to ask, but what does that include - cycling, shopping, walking in the park... ?

He said I can read with or without them but that the difference between my eyes might make it more comfortable to read with. Anyone else have a similar strength to me?

I can see to use the computer but the screen is blurry for my worst eye although with both I don't notice. That's normal I suppose?

I wore them home but when I took them off my vision seemed fuzzier than before. Why is that?

My boyfriend says I look cute with glasses but thinks it will be strange for a while. Quite a day.

  1. In order:

"activities" here means detailed activities, as a rule.

If you prefer a more "impressionistic" walk in the park, and no glasses, that's fine.  Generally it's only driving that comes with a firm "glasses must be used"

Using them for cycling would be a good idea, unless you ride so hard they tend to steam up.  That's for the safety of the rest of you!

Wear them as suits you, basically: as much or as little.

Experiment and see what *you* like, Distance and near.

With a differing Rx between the two eyes, that will often take some getting used to.  That could easily account for your finding the vision odd when you first take the glasses off, if you're tending to use two eyes with the glasses and one without.

Within a week or so, the brain will normally have worked out both "modes" and get better at swapping between them.

  2. Isn't it great to see well?

For a long time I avoided wearing glasses because I could get by, then I got contacts and realised what I'd been missing.

Wear them whenever you think they help you see better, whether that's just watching the TV or walking to the paper shop. I can't believe I denied myself good vision because I thought I could get by.
