So I dont want to be too close to the CBD, but saying that I dont want to be too far away. I was looking at Deception Bay, to rent for the time being, but looking at the schools esp. college so our kids will all be at one school. I have read Kelvin Grove College is a top school what do you (or anyone), think? Thanks again for your input!

  1. Kelvin Grove has a good reputation. It's, if not unique, certainly very unusual for a State school in being K-12. I only know about the High School and everything I've heard is that it's excellent with good discipline and teaching. It includes several Schools of Excellence and that's usually a good indicator of a quality school.

It's a long way from Deception Bay though, through some pretty heavy traffic and I can't think of any direct public transport between the two places (I may be wrong about that - it's not in my neck of the woods).

IIRC, your kids are all in the very early years of Prep or Primary School (ages 4,5 &6?) and before long, or even perhaps now they can all attend the same State Primary School. It will probably depend on your 4 year old's birth month, but many Preps will accept some 4 year olds and most, if not all state schools have Prep classes. I know that Deception Bay and DB North both do. I drove past DBSS a few weeks ago and it looked like a nice little school in a nice setting in a decent area. I may have gone past DBNSS too, but didn't notice it.

If I can add a small word of caution about looking too far ahead. If you're thinking of Kelvin Grove for several years hence when some kids are at primary school and some at high school, it may not work out quite the way you imagine. If your eldest goes to high school and gets into sport or other extra curricular activities, all of your plans will probably come to naught when they need to stay back after school or arrive early for training, practice or whatever. Been there - got the t-shirt! It ends up as if they were all at separate schools anyway and if the school is miles away, someone (usually you) ends up with an awful lot of extra travelling or the kid with the extra activities ends up travelling long distances by themselves.

Good luck with getting a job and finding a place to live.
