I'm going to Paris and Venice with my parents for Thanksgiving. We've only got a week but what are the best places to go/see?

  1. Thanksgiving is only celebrated in North America (Canada & USA), so you will find that the days are just ordinary weekdays in Europe.

Either city has more than enough places to visit to keep you busy a full week!

Paris is a monument in itself, every street in the center of the city is magnificent... The Sacré Coeur area with the painters at the sidewalk cafés and the Basilica, being up on a hill you have a fantastic view of the city at your feet. The Champs Elysées with the Arche de Triomphe at one end and the Place de la Concorde at the other is gorgeous. The Madeleine is near La Concorde and from there you can see The Opera building down the street to your left and Les Invalides (where Napoleon is buried) on the other bank of the Seine. Notre Dame Cathedral, some thirty odd museums including the Louvre. Versailles Palace, Fontainebleau, etc...In other words, take your choice, you'll find dozens of things worth visiting!

Go into one of the touristic websites Paris has for more info:

    www.parisinfo.com

    www.paris.fr.com

    www.paris-tourism.com

    www.paris.org

Venice is also magnificent, but smaller... The main things Piazza San Marco, the Rialto, Murano with the glass blowers, the Lido and many other beauriful sights... Do the canals by gondola or vaporetto...

    Try these:

    www.venice-tourism.it

    Hope you enjoy your trip!

  2. There's so much to see in Paris.   You can't miss Notre Dame and Sacre Coeur.  Also, go to the top of the Eiffel Tower at night; the view is spectacular.  Make sure to walk through one of the street markets.  I like Montorgueil, near the Chatelet metro station.  Walk along the Seine.  Visit a couple of museums -- I like d'Orsay and Rodin.  Visit Berthillon for fabulous ice cream.  Have dinner at Les Philosophes in the Marais and lunch at Les Canons des Goblin in the Latin Quarter (I recommend the panini rome).  Spend some time walking around neighborhoods, especially the Latin Quarter.  Visit a grocery store and notice the differences compared to stores at home.

I pretty much hated Venice, so my only recommendation is to visit St. Marks and a some of the glass shops.

  3. No matter where you go, remember Thanksgiving is an American Holiday and is not celebrated by other countries in the world.  Have a great time.
