Where did "That's what she said" come from? And why do people always say it?

                -It was very hard.

    -Thats what she said.

    It's just a way of turning a non-perverted conversation into a perverted one. Don't know where it came from though.

    People say it because its funny. Whenever there is a sexual reference you say "Thats what she said"
