  1. largely because they are no longer fashionable, also because they are uncomfortable

  2. their kind of itchy and uncomfortabale

  3. Well, I couldn't care less what is or isn't FASHINABLE!  I wear what I like and what I, personally, think looks good on me.  I am apparently not too far off base with my tastes, since I get compliments on the way I coordinate my clothes just about everywhere I go.

As to stockings, however, I am guessing that they have probably fallen from grace because they are an expensive and miserably uncomfortable NUISSANCE!

At least that's why I NEVER wore the foul things, myself, unless I absolutely HAD to!

Even the ones that were supposed to be guaranteed run-proof seemed so fragile that if you even breathed on them, they ran, BIG TIME!!! and constantly replacing them was not cheap.

Then, of course, with all the size variations available, I STILL managed to fit (or more accurately, NOT fit) into some mystical grey area between size categories!  If they fit me around the waist, they bagged around my legs, and if they fit around my legs, the top parts would squeeze my stomach miserably!  And the height issue was just more nasty frosting on the cake!  There, again, I was right on the line between two size categories and neither provided a workable fit in ANY size!

I finally took to wearing longer and longer skirts just so I COULD avoid stockings and still be socially acceptable!

Now that one can get away with wearing a skirt without them, I am so accustomed to and comfortable in longer skirts that I still wear them almost exclusively.

  4. Nylons are a costly, useless, impractical way to cover your legs.

As someone mentioned previously, they are hot in summer, do not keep your feet or legs warm in winter.  When they were fashionable, I remember having to wear two pairs of pantyhose, with the left leg cut off one pair, and the right leg cut off the other, just to end up with a pair that did not have runs or snags.

With women's fashions leaning to pants, nylons are unnecessary.  Even with a dress, most women take very good care of their legs and feet, so bare legs and sandals look great with a summer dress.

  5. They're uncomfortable and they look weird and fake.

  6. i think its because it was back in the day lol wierd

  7. I actually can't say I own any.. (that I would wear outside the bedroom)

I own some tights.. I wear tights in the winter and nothing but lotion in the summer.

I don't think they are fashionable anymore.. they look really dated.

And I don't say this because I lack femininity because as I type this, I'm wearing a sun dress and sandals. I still wear dresses.. I just forgo the stockings.

  8. Style changes.  Society's standards change.  Hose are not required wear anymore.  They are expensive and they are not durable.

  9. I really don't know.

I wear stockings all day, every day.  There's no excuse for not wearing them in summer as they help keep you cool, and in winter you can wear nice, thick opaques and keep warm!

I don't leave the house without stockings on - and there's nothing better than the feel of a new pair of 100% nylon stockings on freshly shaved and moisturised legs.

  10. I think most women stopped wearing them because they are a pain in the butt to put on.  They are uncomfortable, too.  In the summer, they are unbearably hot, in the winter, they don't make much difference.  They are expensive, and they get damaged easily.   One little snag, and you have a run that keeps getting bigger every time you look at it.  I am 56 years old.....and I bless the day I didn't have to wear them anymore.  I'm sure if you tried putting on a pair of "Control-Top" pantyhose you would know in less than five seconds why hosiery is a dreaded part of a woman's attire.    The only plus side to hosiery is that they do make a woman's legs look better.   Now.....if we do something about women's BRAS I'd be the happiest woman on earth!!!      Have a nice day!

  11. I really like stockings, but I find it difficult to get stockings long enough - I have very long legs, and I prefer my stockings to reach at least half way up my thighs instead of stopping just above my knees!

The other problem is keeping them from coming unclipped.  If I wear them all day I really need a belt with metal clips, but most belts (especially the s**y ones) have plastic clips, and I get fed up with having to run off somewhere private to reattach them.

So I only wear them when I know I'm going to be getting the full benefit ;)

  12. I love stockings, but I am kind of worried about them pinging off my suspenders. Maybe because we are less lady like lol there is more chance of them pinging off.

  13. Alot of women do. You just get the extremes here. The woman who hate them and are never going to wear them. The plain fact is that they make a woman's legs look better (unless she has great skin tone) and they're good accessories as different color and style can give an outfit different looks.

  14. Stockings keep your legs cooler in the summer time? Why aren't more men wearing these if it keeps their legs cooler? LOL

  15. they dont shave their legs anymore and the silk rips all the time.

Edit: thanks for making fun of me...I was just trying to guess at the answer based on what I saw around me.

  16. Hitchhiker seems to think that leg shaving was around for more than 100 years!  Quite humorous.

No, women don't wear stockings anymore in some places because they have no need for them.  In California, no stockings.  However, in New York, where it's still cold outside, I see many women still wearing them.

For the most part, though, women are proud of how their legs look these days and want to show them off.

  17. Yea you're right. The last time I wore some was yesterday.
