Heehee. . . I didn't mean that like it sounded. But why is it that in movies when there is a whipping scene, the one who is being punished is given this thing to bite down on . . .how does it help??

it puts more pressure on what you are biting down on.

so you dont feel the whipping as much.

It gives your mouth something to do besides scream.  Like in the Civil War if they had to cut your leg off because of gangrene first they gave you a lead bullet to bit on.
