“That’s what I’m here for,” says jubilant C. C. Sabathia after delivering complete-game victory
New York Yankees ace starter C. C. Sabathia showed his extraordinary pitching skills against Baltimore Orioles on Friday, October 12 at Yankee Stadium in New York City.
He literally rattled the Baltimore Orioles in the final game of American League Divisional Series (ALDS) with his nine strong innings in which he received one run and four hits on his consistent 1.53 Earned Run Average (ERA).
“That’s what I’m here for, It’s what I play the game for. I guess I should feel a little pressure or something like that, but I don’t,” Sabathia said after the game with sheer jubilation on his perfect outing which certainly outclassed the Orioles’ batting.
Sabathia added, “There’s still a long way to go, I’ve still got hopefully three or four more starts, so the job is not done yet.”
Later first baseman Nick Swisher also commented about Sabathia who helped the Yankees to oust the Orioles and said, “It was almost like the Raul Ibanez-CC Sabathia Show this series, We’re just excited about the opportunity to be moving on. This was a tough series.”
Before the last and final game of ALDS, Sabathia knew that he now has a great chance to show his extraordinary offensive skills and when he came out in the field, he did exactly what he had in mind.
From start of the game, Sabathia kept the Orioles' upfront batting line-up under pressure and did not allow them to hit freely. Sabathia struck-out nine Orioles’ batters in his nine innings spell which eventually proved one of the winning factors for the New York Yankees.
Now Yankees will start their next big American League Championship Series against the Detroit Tigers from Saturday.
“He was just dominant, He showed why he’s making all that money. He’s the man. He’s the horse of this team,” Russell Martin said.
Along with Sabathia’s great performance, New York Yankees' first baseman Mark Teixeira also played well and helped his team win this last and important game of ALDS as he scored one run on one hit while he also maintained his slugging percentage at .353.
