Thaworn Wiratchant aims for a successful CIMB Classic
The Thai veteran, Thaworn Wiratchant has been on a golden run for the last couple of weeks. The 45-year-old seems to have saved his best for the 2012 season.
He not only won three titles, but has also surpassed his career’s best tour prize money. So far this season, he has earned $547,031 but with more tournaments to come the former Asian number one can surely add more money to his tally.
Fresh from wining the Indian Open in Bangalore, the Thai veteran hopes to be Asian Tour’s oldest champion, dominating the Tour Order of Merit.
It seems that with age Thaworn is becoming more and more consistent with his performances. He will be playing for the ninth consecutive week at the CMIB Classic.
It seems that the evergreen Thai is in no mood to slow down his pedal of accelerator.
After winning the Indian Open, his attention has now turned over to the CMIB Classic. Here, he will be facing the likes of the fourteen-time major winner and the former world number one, Tiger Woods.
He will also be up against the challenges of other promising PGA Tour players, including the defending champion, Bo Van Pelt and Ben Crane.
"It is nice to lead the Order of Merit and there are many big tournaments coming up. I want to win it (Order of Merit) but it will depend on how I play in the next few events. I have a good chance of winning but I'll need to continue my form," said Wiratchant.
It will not be easy facing the likes of Tiger Woods but the veteran is surely up for the challenge that Woods poses.
"I only aim to win when I play in any tournament. Every time I'm in the field, my only goal is to win. I have to admit that it is getting harder as I get older and the young players are so good now," said Wiratchant, who is now 84th on the world
golf rankings.
The fifteen time Asian Tour winner will have to play out of his skin if he aims to pull off a memorable victory at the CMIB Classic.
