Thaworn Wiratchant hopes to end poor form at Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters – Golf news
Thaworn Wiratchant is hoping to shake off his poor form this week when he tees off at the Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters with an aim of successfully defending his title that he won last year.
The tournament is set to be staged at the challenging Seri Selangor Golf Club, featuring a strong line-up from the Asian Tour.
The Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters is known for attracting a strong field each year. This year too, the event has reeled in some prominent names, including the likes of the current Order of Merit number three Scott Hend, Indian star Anirban Lahiri,
Siddikur Rahman of Bangladesh and the winner of the 2010 edition Angelo Que.
Last year, the Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters was among the tournaments that saw Wiratchant showing his class at the age of 45. At the end of the season, he became the oldest winner of the Asian Tour Order of Merit, the second Merit title of his career.
This season, he has not been able to repeat the heroics that witnessed him becoming the only player on the Asian Tour to record 15 victories in his career.
Last week, he participated in the Queen’s Cup as the title holder, but failed to keep hold onto it after missing the cut. That is the reason why the Thai star is not confident about his performance in Malaysia.
At the same time, the Thai star also believes that he will have to work really hard in order to post decent scores in difficult playing conditions in Seri Selangor Golf Club.
“I’m not in form. This is not an easy golf course so it is going to be difficult for me. I can’t say that I’m confident to win but I’ll try my best. I hope I can get my best game back,” said the 46-year-old Thaworn.
“The course suits my game but the greens are quite hard. It will be easy if you can find the fairways. But I’m not feeling confident with my game because I’m not hitting it great with my irons at the moment,” he added.
Que, in the meantime, is relishing the opportunity of returning to the site of his 2010 victory when he defeated his playoff opponent, Chris Rodgers, on the first extra hole.
