Thaworn Wiratchant retains the lead in the Asian Tour Order of Merit
Thaworn Wiratchant retained his lead in the Asian Tour Order of Merit, after finishing tied for the 24th position at the Barclays Singapore Open, on Sunday, November 11, 2012.
The US$ 6 million tournament was being played at the Sentosa Golf Club, and was co-sanctioned by the European Tour and the Asian Tour.
Wiratchant, who has won three Asian Tour events this season, pocketed US$ 60,600 prize money, after posting a 2-under par tournament score. He now leads Marcus Fraser by approximately US$ 80,000.
Wiratchant has now set his sights on becoming the Asian Tour Order of Merit winner for the second time in his career, having won the prestigious title for the first time in 2005.
“It is nice to lead the Order of Merit and there are many big tournaments coming up. I want to win it (Order of Merit) but it will depend on how I play in the next few events,” he said.
“I have a good chance of winning but I’ll need to continue my form. I’m looking forward to the end of the season,” said Thaworn.
Fraser, in the meantime, finished tied for the 33th position, after recording an even-par tournament score in Singapore.
Talking to the Asian Tour’s official website, he stated that he was happy to follow Wiratchant in the Order of Merit.
He expressed his wish of winning the Order of Merit for the first time in his career. Earlier in 2010, he recorded a runner-up finish in the Asian Tour money list.
With four events left on the Asian Tour roster, the Australian is confident to catch his Thai rival on top of the Order of Merit.
“I’m happy that things are moving in the right direction for me. I’m pretty comfortable and hopefully it continues. I’ve got a pretty busy few weeks coming up. Hopefully things keep improving,” said Fraser.
Danny Chia, in the meantime, moved into the top-60 in the list, after finishing tied for the 67th position on the leaderboard.
According to the Asian Tour policy, the top-60 players at the end of the season will be allowed to retain their cards for the 2013 season.
