Thaworn Wiratchant struggles with his game at the World Golf Championships – HSBC Champions
Thaworn Wiratchant carded a two-under par 70 in the second round of the World Golf Championships – HSBC Champions, to share the 31st position, on Friday, November 2, 2012.
The US$7 million tournament, which is co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour, European Tour and the Asian Tour, is being played at the prestigious Mission Hills Golf Club.
Wiratchant, who has won three Asian Tour events this season so far, was regarded as one of the hot favourites for a victory this week.
The current Asian Tour Order of Merit leader was also confident to maintain his form in the fourth and the last WGC of the season.
However, he has not been able to perform well and currently lies way behind the leader, Louis Oosthuizen, who recorded an impressive 16-under par two-round score.
With a 14-stroke deficit against the leader, the Thai star will have to do some miracle in order to surge to the top of the leaderboard. He will have to play for glory in the final two rounds.
Talking to the Asian Tour’s official website, he stated that he played a better game on day two. However, he still struggled with his clubs and did not avail the opportunity of playing under easy playing conditions at the venue course.
“It was better today with a two under round but I didn’t hit it good. Played safe and then I was two over after six holes. On seven, I made eagle from the bunker, about a 40 yard shot which was very nice,” he said.
He also said that he was a little scared of the firm greens and was trying too hard to stop the ball on the greens. As a result, he lost control over his game and played some silly shots in the end.
“Back nine, some good holes and some bad holes. Good drive on 10, had a pitching wedge but made bogey. Kept hitting it left and right,” he said.
He added, “Some greens, the ball would pitch and roll four pins past the flag. Didn’t have any control. Try to stay under par tomorrow. I’m not looking at the leaderboard. Just keep playing my own game”.
