The 2000th Test - England should win on the last day of the Lords Test says Matt Prior – Cricket News Update
England’s wicketkeeper/batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Prior-c1984 is hopeful that his team will be able to get the remaining nine wickets to beat India in the last day of the Lord’s Test.
The home team gave India a mammoth target of 458 runs to win, when they declared their second innings at 269 runs for the loss of six wickets. At stumps, India had lost one wicket after scoring 80 runs.
Prior himself performed exceptionally on day four as he scored a crucial hundred to secure the advantage for England, and from now onwards, it is just a matter of survival for the Indians.
The wicketkeeper feels that it is a great chance for the home team to gain an early lead in this all important series, where there is a lot at stake. However, he expressed that the English team will have to come out with a positive intent
tomorrow.
Prior said, “Test wins against quality opposition don't come about very often and we've got ourselves in a very good position. It will be hugely frustrating not to back that up and go through with it. The really important thing is we come
in tomorrow like we always do and look to win the first half an hour, first hour, and go from there.”
The English wicketkeeper believes that his team should not take extra pressure to win against India and said that England will win if they perform up to their potential on the last day.
“If you start thinking we have to win this Test match, we have to take nine wickets, you can start building up unnecessary pressure on the bowlers. If we do what we've done for the last two years, keep it basic and build pressure," Prior
added.
This is a significant Test match in more ways than one as it is the 2000th Test match of the history of the game and the 100th match between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750. The visitors are the number one ranked Test team of the
world but they can lose this status in case of a defeat in this series.
