At tea, on day two of the first Test between India and England at Lord’s, July 22, 2011, England had scored 305 runs for the loss of five wickets.
England started the second session at 217 runs for the loss of three wickets as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/IR-Bell-c1597 started off from where they had left prior to the lunch break. There was a big surprise installed for the cricket fans as the Indian
captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Dravid-c2229 to keep wickets.
Quite surprisingly, Dhoni was able to get some movement and he troubled Pietersen on a couple of occasions. In fact, the right hander was given out by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Brent-Fraser-Bowden-c48388 off the bowling of Dhoni; however, the replays showed that Pietersen had
not edged the ball and he survived.
Pietersen was quite clearly more aggressive in the second session of the day as he played some delightful shots to complete his hundred.
India took the second new ball after 87.1 overs and that turned out to be the right decision as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/P-Kumar-c2143 made the ball talk before tea and picked up a couple of crucial scalps.
Kumar was labeled as a limited overs specialist before the tour of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760, but some brilliant performances in the Caribbean forced the Indian management to induct him in the playing eleven at Lord’s. The right-arm medium-pacer
has proved that he is a high class swing bowler.
However, Pietersen found able support in shape of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Prior-c1984 and the two took the attack to the Indian bowlers. At tea, Pietersen was unbeaten on 115 runs, whereas Prior had scored 21 runs.
Pietersen looks to be in fine touch after a long time. He struggled on day one at the start of his innings, but the former England captain made sure on day two that he silences his critics in the best possible manner.
India on the other hand, would be disappointed with the performance of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/I-Sharma-c1566, as both of them were wicket-less in the first innings till tea on day two.
