The Premier League is often termed the best league in the world, and rightly so. There is no other league in the world which offers the level of competition you’ll find in the English top flight. Although the league has been dominated by the so called ‘top
four’ teams over the past decade or so, now it has become a matter of the ‘top six’.
It always used to be http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 having joined the other three
ever since a certain Russian billionaire arrived and took charge of the West London club.
Although there had been teams that also were prominent and well known, they never managed to break the monopoly of the ‘top four’, and were always outsiders. Newcastle, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur were among these clubs.
However, things have changed now. Manchester City are the English champions and have finally managed to silence the red side of Manchester, for a while at least. Chelsea came sixth in the league, but still went on to qualify for the Champions League spot
since they won it last season. Chelsea won the final against Bayern Munich on penalties and went on to lift the trophy. How else would’ve they gone through? There’s only so much you can do by parking the bus.
Liverpool have become an elaborate parody of themselves and have failed to qualify for the Champions League in a third successive season, despite spending wads of cash on players such as Luis Suarez, Andy Carroll and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Stewart-Downing-c34221. Tottenham qualified
for the Champions League spot in place of Liverpool and the newly rich Manchester City two seasons ago, but have failed ever since. Despite this, the North London club played some amazing football throughout the season, and were often a joy to watch.
Last season also saw Newcastle emerge as a force to be reckoned with. After gaining promotion back to the upper reaches of English football, the Tyneside club went through some radical changes, and had a very impressive season.
This all happened under the watchful eye of owner Mike Ashley and manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Demba-Ba-c10812 and Papiss Demba
Cisse arrived and uplifted spirits at the club. Newcastle went on to finish fifth, narrowly missing out on the fourth spot by just a point.
Arsenal lost the likes of Cesc Fabregas, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Samir-Nasri-c32360 and Gael Clichy. The club made a number of ‘emergency’ signings after getting thrashed by Manchester United in the 8-2 nightmare at Old Trafford. Having been at 17th position at one point, the
club went on to finish in third spot, taking over rivals Tottenham along the way. This all happened due to 30 odd goals by a certain Dutch striker and the genius that is Arsene Wenger.
Manchester United had a very average squad compared to their local rivals Manchester City, who had the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Silva-c10601 in their squad. The Red Devils still only lost the English title on goal difference,
which is the first time the Premier League was decided on goal difference. City might have not been entirely convincing in their title win, but the way they won it was dramatic as much as it was exciting.
The team was losing at home to Queens Park http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rangers-c40314, while United were already celebrating away to Sunderland. However, things took a dramatic turn when two goals in five minutes towards stoppage time courtesy of Aguero and Edin Dzeko gave City the win, and
ultimately the Premiership title.
This was the most dramatic, intense and competitive Premier League season to date. Teams such as Norwich City, Swansea City and Queens Park Rangers survived their first season in the top flight, while Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Bolton
Wanderers were sadly relegated and will apply their trade in the Championship next season.
All in all, it has been an amazing season so far. Next season will be even more exciting, as Tottenham, Arsenal, Liverpool, Newcastle and Chelsea have impressive squads already, and the two Manchester clubs also looking to be included in the mix of things.
The fight for the title and the top four spots will have everyone’s attention and interest. Expect more drama, action and excitement.
