The 2011 European Tour schedule left Lee Westwood puzzled
The world number one player Lee Westwood is puzzled after seeing the new European Tour Schedule. It is quite a shocker that the country that has the best player won’t be staging a lot of golfing tournaments. Out of all the events on the tour,
only two are on English soil. Therefore, Westwood who finally dethroned the American Tiger Woods as golf’s best player in October doesn’t like the 2011 tour schedule very much.
Along with Lee, there are many other players like Ian Poulter, Luke Donald and Paul Casey that belong to England. Seeing how all of these players are in decent positions in the rankings, Lee thinks it’s time they all let the world know what English golfers
can do.
Having 10 amazing English players currently, Lee thinks there should have a European major sort of event on the schedule. He said that all the talented golfers should get together and play an English Open or a European Open in England. Generous Westy even
offered to be an ambassador for the English Open. Suggesting that the European Tour fund the Open, Lee said he’ll be glad to be the ambassador.
The talented player who didn’t play in some crucial events of the season due to an injury is all the more excited about the next season. Westwood had a torn calf muscle which flared up during the French Open in the summer. Due to the injury, Lee didn’t even
participate in the Bridgestone Invitational and was on bed rest until the Ryder Cup. Giving an amazing performance Ryder Cup, the pain recurred when Westwood was competing in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. Despite not playing in some important events,
Lee still managed to become the world number one this year.
With the weather being chilly and wet in his native Worksop around this time of the year, Westwood is not letting the cold become an obstacle. Despite all the hindrances, Lee is still practices on the course and is working on his fitness. The player wants
to be in an amazing shape for the coming season.
"If you are the best at something you have to put yourself in the position of the people behind you and remember what that felt like. They all want something that I've got. So to retain it, I'm going to have to work harder. Besides, while being world No.
1 is great, the defining thing in golf and what everyone is judged by is majors, and I still haven't won one,” said Lee Westwood.
