2011 Malaysian Hockey League on the verge of adjournment till the next year
The management committee of the Malaysian National Hockey Team is of the view that the commencement of Malaysian Hockey league (MHL) will be a barrier in the process of national team’s preparation for the upcoming 2012 London Olympic Games.
It will be a better decision if MHL is postponed until 2012, instead of September 2011.
The officials of Malaysians hockey team have some reasonable proposals for regarding the commencement of hockey league and they also want a suitable solution which will be accepted by the national team as well as the MHL teams.
For this purpose, a session is being arranged by the Malaysian Hockey Federation (MHF) committee on July 16, in which the issue will be discussed for a convenient solution. The matter will be discussed between the MHF committee and the officials of
MHL teams.
“We also realise that there are other issues to be considered and we are happy to wait for July 16 to make a decision. We too want a win-win situation for the national team and the MHL teams. The dialogue session planned for July 16 will be meaningful
as this will allow the MHL team officials to argue their case,” Datuk Nor Azmi Ahmed, the chairman of the national team management committee and the deputy president of MHF described.
“Some teams hire foreign players and keeping them on the payroll during the break will be a financial burden. Won’t it be better to hold it next year and run the league without any interruptions,” Datuk Azmi further stated about the decision.
The prevailing situation, regarding the matter, became difficult due to the reason that the International Hockey Federation (FIH) has not decided the dates for the Olympic qualifiers yet. So, it is a herculean task to decide whether the league should
be played according to its original schedule or the dates should be changed or even postponed further. An alternative option can be practiced that the first round of the league can be conducted in September and October, while the elimination round can be played
in December.
