The 2011 National Intercollegiate Volleyball Championship to start today – Volleyball News
The 2011 National Intercollegiate Volleyball Championship is set to begin today, in an event which is being organised by the Philippine Volleyball Federation.
With such a large number of teams taking part in the tournament, it has been decided that the matches would take place in three separate locations. University of the Cordilleras, Benguet State University and Cordillera Career Development College will host
the games, which are sure to bring out great interest in the local spectators.
The event’s popularity stems from the fact that the championship stresses upon quality matches in a friendly atmosphere. The level of skill displayed by the players is something that is not usually seen elsewhere.
The event is scheduled to be held for one complete week, with various universities becoming a part of the competition. A total of 19 universities will be competing against each other in the event. Rizal Technological University is entering the tournament
as the defending champions. On the other hand, De La Salle University holds the honour of having the distaff crown.
The tournament is not restricted to local universities only, as guests are also welcome to take part in the challenge. The Men’s and the Women’s teams will display their skill on the court in the competition.
PVF has undertaken the responsibility to host the event once every year. In this way, the PVF aims to promote and develop the sport of volleyball at the grass root level. Bringing the game closer to the younger crowd surely makes way for the sport to secure
a strong future for itself. In this way, players in the sport would be better skilled, as they would have taken up the game from a very early stage.
Once these young athletes have been polished by participating in the program, they are all set to enter higher levels of volleyball being played in the country. More specifically, the National Youth Volleyball Team has their eyes set on the aspiring players
that take part in the tournament and stand a chance of being selected to play at the national level.
