The 2012 London Olympic Games and Fencing Sport
Olympic Games are the biggest event of sports where thousands of athletes from all over the world compete in different games. Olympic Games are conducted each two years, with summer and winter seasons alternating. Olympic Sports are organised by International
Olympic Committee (IOC) situated at Lausanne, Switzerland.
The 2012 Summer Olympic Games is upcoming sports event of Olympic chain. Games of the 2012 Summer Olympic Games will be held at London. In these games 302 events will be held in 26 sports with the participation of 205 with the participation of almost 205
countries and about 10500 athletes. Olympic will start on July 27, with opening ceremony and will end on August 12, with closing ceremony.
As fencing is the enumerated in one of the four famous games to be taken at each Olympic Games, so it will also have an enormous impact on 2012 Summer Olympic Games. Ten types of event will held in fencing from July 28 to August 5, named after the three
types of swords used. Men will compete in five events, named Men’s Individual Foil, Men’s Team Foil, Men’s Individual Epee, Men’s Individual Sabre and Men’s Team Sabre and Women will also compete in five events, named Women’s Individual Epee, Women’s Team
Epee, Women’s Individual Foil, Women’s Team Foil and Women’s Individual Sabre. Total 212 athletes will fight for ten gold medals. There is a minute clash between IOC and IFE upon the limits of medal. IFE wants to add two more medals, but IOC wants to keep
the previous format of ten medals.
The venue for fencing is set “ExCeL Exhibition centre”. It is located near London City Airport. People may have easy approach due to the venue superb road links excellent railway networks. ExCeL has been visit by more than 7 million visitors from 200 countries
and about 3500 events has been conducted here. ExCeL is being divided into four halls having capacities from 6000 to 10000 in each. Boxing, weightlifting, fencing, judo, table, table tennis, taekwondo, and wrestling will be played in these halls.
If we talk about the world-wide power-houses of fencing, France, Germany, Italy and Russia have influential and expert fencers, who can avail chance to get the gold medals.
If we go through 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, France ranked first by winning four medals (two gold and two silver medals). Italy was ranked number two by getting seven medals (two gold and five bronze medals). Germany was got third position by two gold medals
only.
USA has strong Women’s Sabre Team and it was ranked 4th by getting total six medals (one gold medal by Women’s Team Sabre, three silver and two bronze). Similarly china won two medals (one gold and one silver medal) and ranked at number five.
Ukraine at number six with one gold medal, Russia at seven with one gold and remaining Romania, Japan, South Korea, Poland, Spain and Hungary were at numbers 8th to 13th with silver and bronze medals. The gold medallists who will defend

Benjamin Kleibrink from Germany for Men’s Individual Foil

Britta Heidemana from Germany for Women’s Individual Epee
Valentina Vezzali from Italy for Women’s Individual Foil
Mariel Zagunis from United States for Women’s Individual Sabre
The teams who won Gold medals and will defend for:
France for Men’s Team Epee
France for Men’s Team Sabre
Russia for Women’s Team Foil
Ukraine for Women’s Team Sabre
If we discuss about any fencer individually regarding 2012 Olympic Games, there are some skilled fencers, who can win the fencing events due to their current performance.
Maria Valentina Vezzali is one of them. She is the Italian fencer and previously she has won three gold medals in Women’s Individual Foil events of Olympic Games consecutively and she has chance to become the only fourth fencer to win four gold medals in
following Summer Olympics.
She is also winner of four golds, one silver and one bronze medal in Olympic fencings, eleven gold medals, four silver and three bronze medals in World Fencing Championships and nine gold, three silver and two bronze medals in European Championships.
Alex O’Connell even was defeated in first round of 2008 Olympic fencing competition, but has huge potential in upcoming fencing events. Richard Kruse, the new bronze winner of European Fencing Championships in Leipzig is making its hope to avail medals.
