The 2012 golf season witnessed Tony Lascuna enjoying a stunning run of form on the 15-stage ICTSI Philippine Golf Tour.
The ICTSI Philippine Golf Tour is Philippine’s premier golf circuit and is organized by Pilipinas Golf Tournaments, Inc.
Right from the beginning of the year, Lascuna remained in the news, courtesy of his outstanding performances in different tournaments.
Entering the season-ending ICTSI Wack Wack Invitational, he had five runner-up finishes registered to his name, along with two victories that came at the ICTSI Eagle Ridge Invitational and Manila Southwoods.
He then finished the year on a high note, as he secured an emphatic nine-stroke victory in the P2.5 million event.
At the end of the season, he became the Order of Merit winner, after pocketing P2.5 million as prize money in 11 starts that he made in 2012. He was among the players who skipped four local tournaments, in a bid to play on the Asian Tour.
After spending such a successful year on the tour, he was also named as the Players’ Player of the Year, after he received the most number of votes from his fellow professionals.
Lascuna expressed his pleasure in becoming the ICTSI Philippine Golf Tour Order of Merit winner and the Players’ Player of the Year in the same year.
According to the Filipino, it was the best season of his career and he could not have done better than that.
Talking to the reporters after receiving the award, he also revealed that the changes in his swing technique were the main reason behind his success on the tour.
He told that he consistently worked on bringing improvements in his game off the tee, in a bid to tweak his overall game.
“This is really my best year, I couldn’t ask for more,” said Lascuna, who recently turned 42. “But I worked hard for it, took a swing change and trained hard to polish my game”.
Apart from his success on the local tour, he also finished the 2012 Asian Tour season as the most successful Filipino. He finished the season at the 12th position in the Asian Tour Order of Merit.
