The 22nd win on the trot doubtful for Rapid Redux as he sustained a minor injury on his right foot ahead of another starter allowance at Laurel Park
The 6-year-old gelding, Rapid Redux, helped his connections break the modern day United States' record for consecutive wins last year in November. Rapid Redux went undefeated for 21 consecutive races, and he is aiming to run in the $17,000 starter allowance on 4 January, 2012, at Laurel Park, where he is being sent off as the 3 to 5 morning line favourite.
However, Rapid Redux’s attempt to go unbeaten for 22 races could be in doubt, because trainer David Wells has revealed that his star runner has grabbed a quarter in his right front foot, which makes his quest for 22 in a row a little bleak.
“There is a little cut on his right front foot. We are a little bit concerned about tomorrow,” Wells said on the 3rd of January.
“It is kind of up in the air. We are working as hard as we can to get it healed up for where it isn’t tender. It does bother him to push on it. It is a little spot, the size of a thumbnail. I had the blacksmith take off his glue-on shoes because we thought that was aggravating but it is all coming from where he grabbed himself.”

The Kentucky bred son of Pleasantly Perfect, out of mare Thiscatsforcaryl by Storm Cat, Rapid Redux won his 21st race on the trot on 13 December, 2011, at Laurel Park, under jockey J Acosta, at about 1 1/16 miles on dirt.
Rapid Redux broke with purpose, as if he knew the race meant the world to his connections, and made a quick move as he jumped to the lead right from the get go.
The Robert L. Cole Jr. owned newly turned 6-year-old gelding didn’t let anyone come near him, reaching the half mile marker and rather giving way, the undefeated gelding pulled away like a locomotive and powered down the track to win the race over Awesome Rhythm in second, covering the distance in good time.
Rapid Redux will have an opportunity to extend his winning streak. It is still a possibility because according to Wells, the Laurel Park track is a really good surface, and they will be on the road if everything is good to go.
