The 27th Governor’s Cup Golf Tournament - Round 2
The 27th Governor’s Cup Golf Tournament ended with its second round at the Lahore Gymkhana Club, Pakistan on Saturday and witnessed a display of fine form and skill by the leader, Waleed Zubair.
According to recent reports, through 54 holes, Zubair managed to overcome the first round leader, Wasim Rana, Hamza and Omer Salamat after vigilantly fighting off the bogeys and making ways for birdies on his score card.
The play on Saturday observed the golfer from Pakistan astonish many opponents on the field including Rana. The golfer from Karachi is a zero handicap amateur and was playing against Omer, Ali Anwar and Danyaal Jehangir at the
Gymkhana GC.
With 18 holes left to play for the third round of the event, Zubair displayed an attacking strategy for the leading line-up and hit the top with his solid shots and drives to take over the leader board in the second round of the
tournament.
The leading position thus held by Zubair was chased by a rather talented mix of golfers. The list included the likes of Omer Salamt, Mohammed Leghari, Ali Anwar Khan, Nadeem Abbas and Danyaal Jehangir who hailed from Gymkhana,
Royal Palm and Sargodah respectively.
The top net line-up through the two rounds witnessed Zubair ruling the apex of the tournament with a total of 141 strokes. The golfer carded a 71 in the first round of the event after which he improved his play by one stroke to
stand at a 70. Besides this consistent golfer, Rana played a bit differently, carding a highly impressive 68 in the introductory round. The golfer from Karachi however failed to maneuver Lahore’s fields and collected a 74 in the second round of the event.
From Round one 68 cult, Omer Salamat stood in the esteem of many, collecting one stroke more than the leader and carding a 74 in the second round of the event. Accompanying Salamat in the runner-up place, Mohammed Leghari carded
a 74 in the initial round and a 68 in the second to grab second place contention.
One stroke further than the player in contention, Ali Anwar Khan carded a 69 and 74 in round one and two. With the gross favouring Rana in every way, he was also challenged by another solid golfer, Danyaal Jehangir. According to
Jehangir’s tactics, his focus was to overtake the leader in the last round of the match.
At 143 strokes, Ali Anwar Khan stood individually with a score of 69 and a 74 from the first two rounds of the Governor’s Cup. Nadeem Abbas and Danyaal Jehangir carded a 74 and a 70 for 144 strokes while Aayan Mumtaz and Lieutenant
Colonel Imran Habib grabbed a 145.
Further down the leader board, Nadeem Abbas grabbed a 150 in his score card while Salamat and Zulfiqar grabbed a 152 for their standings after the first two rounds of the 27th Governor’s Cup Golf Tournament in Lahore.
