I live in Nz and i dunno if anyone else has noticed but the 'clouds' have been moving really fast lately and i was wondering if it had anything to do with the increasing rate of pollution and stuff like that?

FYI: I do know its not the clouds that are moving, its the earth, but when you look it looks like the clouds.

  1. Lol, the cloud is really moving, although the earth also moves. They move is just because of the wind. They may be at a lower altitude which may cause it to appear to move more quickly.

Pollution however, may have some effects on the climate. But normally, you can't forge out a pattern within just a few days. It's long term. Air pollution increases temperature of the surface of the earth. Hence, convectional currents will be stronger, which may result in high wind rates.

However, what you see is most likely not due to pollution.

  2. Actually, if you are looking up at clouds, they are doing the moving.  They are probably faster because they are lower than normal - not necessarily because of pollution, but a different weather pattern than you've seen.  Keep observing - keep a notebook of what you see, and see if you can discern a pattern...

  3. I'll keep this simple, it's because of the upper-level winds. If they were really strong that day 80-110+ kts then those clouds would be moving pretty darn fast!

  4. you are so cute. but sweety clouds move bcos of the wind. (:

  5. Actually clouds are not moving,it is the wind that is blowing at the cloud-level that carries the cloud along with it.Somtimes clouds at different layers(different heights) may be moving in different directions due to prevailing winds at the respective levels. Because winds flow from different directions with different speeds at different levels in the atmosphere.

It has nothing to do with pollution. If some low pressure system is there nearby, winds may be strong in the upper levels.
