Question:

The 'crisis' in the housing market?

If 'Socialist' Labour had stepped in years ago to control reckless lending by banks, there would have been an outcry. No outcry though when 'socialist' Labour step in to help cushion the crisis - do you think the government should get involved to wipe up the 'free market economy' mess or do you think they should allow things to run their course? Would a Tory government step in?

  1. let things run it's course

  2. There is no solution without a growing economy demanding more labour and hence more immigrants to fill the houses. Immigration is necessary for a country that does not replace its population.

  3. The housing market is heavily inflated and there is only one way it's going.

  4. Last point first: the new labour Tories are not steppng in to an extent that will make an appreciable difference - just enough (they hope) to make people think they are trying to make a difference.

If there had been a real Labour government, yes, I agree that they would have taken command of the situation and brought the banks under a responsible regulatory regime.  And yes, the corporate criminals' media would have screamed blue murder, which I assume is what you mean by an outcry - because there would have been no outcry from millions of decent, ordinary people.  Which would be a very good reason for bringing the media under responsible social ownership and management in the first place.

And finally, of course the Tories would do nothing about it, becuse just like the new labour Tories, they believe in crackpot Hayekian theories about the beneficial effect of unregulated market forces - theories which have been disproved by history again and again, and are being rubbished by events now.

We need to put an end to the age of Thatcherism under which we have suffered for nearly 30 years.  It's time to turn out new labour and turn to real old Labour!  Government for the people, not the (obscenely rich)people.

Then raise the scarlet standard high!

  5. a true socialist would not have allowed this mess in the first place.under this new labour tory party they have allowed all business to ride roughshod over government.they have taxed us so much now we are not spending the money that is needed to boost their economy.jobs being lost, banks being bailed out, they even think a 1yr freeze on stamp duty will be the cure.in truth they have simply blown all of our wealth like modern day prince john of robin hood.but not all this is their fault.we have allowed this to happen by sitting back and letting them get away with this.my father went on strike for a better life .and i think its about time the people of UK did the same.

  6. They should step in. Gordon Brown is guaranteed to lose his home if they dont. Tories probably would not.
