The 500m for aq championship meet...at taft high?????

ok so on thursday i am swimming the 500m for a championship and i have only swam it one other time and got third out of four people so what can i do too increase my time and not get cramps.......??????? and is it okay to be nervous for such a big event??

  1. you need to keep your pace

    dont try to sprint the whole thing cuase it will hurt you later on

    dont forget to keep kicking cuase you can get a lot of speed off that

    and yes everyone gets nervous but youll do fine

When I coached swimming, (rec league) you need to pace your breathing every 3 or 5 arm strokes, or whatever is comfortable.  Because it is a mid distance you need to keep the pace quick and steady.  That way you have some energy for the end.  It is ok to be nervous, but try to imagine the race and visualize it in your mind.  Many elite athletes use this to help them calm nerves.  Good luck.
